Manually Remove CRM 4 RRS feed

  • Question

  •

Does anyone know how to manually remove CRM4?

I was beta testing 4 CTP3 and the Beta Readme said that you absolutely could upgrade from 4 CTP3 to 4 Final.  Well, needless to say, that is not the case.  Now I cannot uninstall and I need to manually remove.  I do not want to wipe the server if I do not have to.  Does anyone know how to manually strip this beast from my server?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It might be a last resort but,

Try to remove all Microsoft.crm Dlls in the GAC.

  • Hi.

You can use windows installer clean up utility.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/en-us

Afterward you will be able to override the existing installation.

  • I tried that and I get the error:

    Method not found: 'Microsoft.Crm.CrmKeySetting

    Microsoft Crm.CrmKeySetting(Microsoft.Crm.CrmKeyType,

    Microsoft.Crm.SharedDatabase.ConfigSku)'.

I was getting this initially.  After I used the clean up utility, I was able to get setup to start, ask for the product key, and load the pre-requisites.  Once the prereq's were loaded, this message appeared again.

  • Hi.

Did you delete the Old CRM Installation folder? What about the registry Settings?

Those elements do not exist on a clean server. I'd suggest doing a bit of cleaning your self.

    1. Rename the current Installation folder.

    2. Backup the MSCRM registry key and then delete it.

This will make Room for the new installation.

The SharedDatabase.ConfigSku holds the Installation type, witch in your case would be "OnPremise".

This is read by the CrmKeySettings ( [CRM Install Dir] \ Setup \ Microsoft.Crm.dll ). but this ,in my opinion, should not matter.

    Good luck

  • Thank you for all of your help Adi.  I think that I am almost there now.  I have deleted the registry key HKLM/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/MSCRM.  I can't find any other keys.  I was not able to rename the Program Files/Microsoft CRM folder.  I was able to delete everything except for the files under the folder: Program Files/Microsoft CRM/Server/ApplicationFiles/catalog.wci.  These are preventing me from completly deleting the installation.  It says that these files are in use and I am not sure what is using them.

I don't understand why this is so difficult...

  • Hi.

I think its is used by the indexing Service.

Stop the service and try again.

I stopped the indexing service and was able to delete the directory.  I tried to install it again and was unable to.  Same Error...  I am trying to restart now and see if it allows me to install.  I also deleted all of the temporary installation files and the setup log files.  I checked the log files prior to deleting and they have nothing that indicates why the issue is occuring.  I also tried running FileMon to see if any files were being accessed that did not exist and there were none.  I will try to use RegMon if this reboot does not work...

Thanks again for all of your help.  I will let you know what happens.

  • None of this worked.  RegMon does not really indicate anything.  There is nothing in the event viewer.  The Setup Log file shows nothing either.  I am not sure what else I can try.  I don't want to wipe the server, but I may have to. Do you have any final suggestions?

  • Where would I find them?

    Edit: Nevermind, I found them...

  •

Open the RUN command (Start + R) > Type "assembly" + Enter > Find the appropriate Assembly > Right click > Uninstall.
