PP2, Media Center and the 360 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Does the PP2 Media Center integration work with Media Center Extenders like the Xbox 360? I'm assuming no since I can't run the Media Center Connector on it. Streaming to the 360 was the reason I was excited about this patch :(

It tells your MC PC that there is another location to find Recorded TV other than on the MC computer itself.  You should now be able to browse your Recorded TV from your 360 and automatically see the TV shows stored on the server (in addition to the TV shows stored on the MC client).  Check the PP2 documentation for more info.

As far as streaming to the 360, you can do that even without PP2 (providing it's the correct file type).  Just go to Videos and point it to your server.

I tend to agree and not sure if the issue is a user one or just not a feature of PP2.  Pre PP2 I was able to stream to the XBOX360, but I could not get the nice Windows Media interface on the 360 or MP4 files to stream.  PP2 gave me the latter but I was hoping I could now stream from my home server directly to the 360 with the Windows Media interface.

No, PP2 doesn't install Media Center on your server (which is what it would take to remove your current Media Center PC out of the equation).  It automatically creates the links between your Media Center PC and the server so both can now be viewed from Media Center (or an extender such as the 360).

I believe this is not the case and I will require a Windows Media PC in between the two.  I am sure someone will validate for me.
