Backup Issue - Computer HD letter changed and backups fail

Question
-
I have been running windows home server on a custom built computer for a little over a month now and I am ejoying it quite a bit.
I recently updated the bios on one of the two computers connected to the home server and the drive letter for one of the two drives on the computer changed.
When the computer attempts to perform a nightly backup, there is an issue with connecting to one of the drives and the backup fails. I have attempted to configure the backups again for this computer, but it has an issue connecting to a harddrive and fails to setup.
Any ideas what I could do to fix this situation. I would love to keep my backups that exist already and have them point to my new drive. I will accept the fact that this cannot happen and would like to at least be able to start a new set of backups with the new drive letter!Saturday, April 4, 2009 3:53 AM

If simply changing the drive letter on the client doesn't do the trick, then you can reconfigure backups for that computer using the console. You won't be able to "reattach" the old backups to the new drive (i.e. have WHS recognize it's the same drive), so you'll have a drive that's "not present" and one that is "present" as show in the backup configuration wizard. Which one you would restore from would depend on what backup you're restoring.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)- Proposed as answer by Ken WarrenModerator Monday, April 6, 2009 4:38 PM

Did you try using Disk Management to change the drive letter back to what it used to be?Saturday, April 4, 2009 2:18 PMModerator -
