I have a bootcamp partition on a new Macbook Pro. I installed a retail version of Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit from Amazon.com, activated it and then upgraded it to Pro via Anytime Upgrade online. Its been fine since then, but 2 days ago it started telling me I had 3 days left to activate it and got a notification on the lower right of the screen that Windows was not genuine. I called MS Support who said they would fix it for $199 + $40 for security software. I said I would just reformat the partition and reinstall from scratch but they said that would not fix the problem (???). I've run the validation test online and it says it is genuine, as expected.I'd like to save this install if possible as I've got other software installed that I'm on my last license of and it will be a hassle to get it reregistered.

Hello Tony,
I'm not sure what that "for $199 + $40 for security software" was about. Are you sure you contacted Microsoft because that doesn't sound right?
Anyways, If you are being asked to reactivate by Windows, then try Reactivating Windows by Phone. Click the Start Button and type: slui 4 and hit the Enter key. This will launch the Activate by Phone wizard. Select your location and then follow the directions.
Note: when the phone first picks up, the automatic Phone Prompt will give a number of options. Either select the option to talk to a Live Activation Rep or if there is no option, don't enter anything into the phone. This will force the Phone Prompt to transfer you to a Live Activation Rep who you can discuss the issue with and who will assist you in reactivating.
Thank you,
