New CPU & MB, now activation fails RRS feed

  • Question

  • I had a power supply issue and it blew my CPU & (perhaps) my Motherboard.  I've replaced all three with slightly more advanced versions as previous.  Now I need to reactivate and I cannot do it.  Online activation fails.  Phone validation fails.

I'd be happy to supply photos of parts, Microsoft media, product keys, & so forth if it helps.

When I try to activate via phone and answer "one" to the "number of computers" question, it asks me to repeat.  Answering "two" or "three" is the same.  It's all the same computer but from a hardware point of view it's difficult to know the answer.  This is the third upgrade on the current box but I don't remember if between Windows 7 was installed before or after the first upgrade (CPU/RAM/MB).

As said before, I'd be happy to supply pics as necessary.

    Here's the DIAG output:

A motherboard change will almost always trigger a need for Phone activation

How to activate Windows 7 manually (activate by phone)

    1) Click Start, and in the Search box type:   slui.exe  4

    2) Next press the 'ENTER' key

    3) Select your 'Country' from the list.

    4) Choose the 'Phone Activation' option.

    5) Stay on the phone (do not respond to any of the automated prompts) and wait for a person to help you with activation.

    6) Explain your issue clearly to the support person.
