Excel format attachments in Outlook 2007 are opened as Word documents

    Question

  • When I receive email with an Excel format attachment (.xls), I attempt to open them by double clicking on them and they are opened as Word documents.  If I save the attachment, it automatically saves as a Word document and I have to right click on it and select "Open with" and select Excel.  Does anyone know why this is happening?  It does not happen with Powerpoint or PDF files, only Excel.
