error in moving farm databases RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi every one,

I've just moved our all farm(1WFE,1App server,1Report server) databases and followed all steps in this document

    It didn't work.

I tried to change sharepint_config by this command:

stsadm -o setconfigdb -connect -databaseserver ...

now I run into the following error in event viwer:

the delete statement conflicted with the reference constraint "fk_dependencies1_objects". the conflicted occurred in database "sharepoint_config",table "dbo.dependencies",column"objectid"

we have to turn off the old database server.what should I do?

  • Hello,

The way I move a SharePoint / Project Server farm to a new SQL Server is as follows

    • Shutdown all SharePoint servers
    • Backup all the SharePoint / Project Server databases
    • Script out all SQL logins used
    • Script out any SQL jobs
    • Copy all objects to the new SQL Server (database backups / SQL logins / jobs etc.)
    • Restore the database backups to the new SQL Server
    • Create the SQL logins (either manually or from a script)
    • Create any SQL jobs
    • Set up SQL database maintenance plans on the new SQL Server
    • Start all SharePoint Servers
    • Re-point / create SQL Alias / DNS Alias for SQL Server - so that the farm still thinks it is connecting to the same SQL Server. If a SQL Alias is used, this needs to be set up on all SharePoint servers in the farm
    • Restart All SharePoint servers
    • Once you have confirmed all works as expected on the new SQL Server the old SQL Server can be deleted / rebuilt

    Similar process documented here:
