Office Home and Student 2007 not genuine on 3rd installation RRS feed

  • Question

  • I recently purchased the Office Home and Student 2007 edition from a reputed retail outlet. I installed it on two computers at home without a hitch and was able to upgrade those to installations to the 2010 version too. However, on trying to install on the third laptop at home I got not genuine message! Ran the diagnostics tool and got the following: -

You have three installations of Office on your HP computer.

The one above in bold is a nongenuine volume licensing installation that was done with a now Blocked Volume Licensing product Key.  This is the installation that is being identified as Nongenuine.

The one above in italics is the retail licensed installation of Office Home and Student 2007.  As you can see it is intsalled but not yet activated.

The one above underlined is a retail licensed installation of Office Enterprise 2007 (meaning it probably came from the Home Use Program [HUP]), but it too is not yet activated.

I think Noel's idea is a good one, uninstall all of the Office installations, restart twice, then between the retail license for Enterprise and for H&S, pick the Office installation you want, and then install just that one.  Whatever you do, don't reinstalled the Volume license of Office, or else you'll be right back where you started, with nongenuine Office.

You can use the MS FixIt utility in this MS KB article to remove all of the Office installations in one operation:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971179/

I suggest that you UNINSTALL ALL Office programs from that PC, and then run the cleanup procedures - then reinstall whichever version you wish to continue using.
