Network Browsing RRS feed

  • Question

  • Three Questions.

    1) Why when I browse:

Entire Network ¦ Microsoft Windows Network ¦ Workgroup

Does the Server not appear? (My server is in the same workgroup as all my PCs)

    2) When I force the server to appear in the workgroup i.e. Keying \\Server in the address bar. Why does it show the Computer Description of the server rather than the Server Name, all my other PCs appear using the Computer Name and not the Description.

    3) Once I can see the Server under the Workgroup:

If I go to the top of the Workgroup level, in explorer on the left pane, only the PCs are shown in the right pane and not the Server even thhough the Server is still listed in the Left Pane. Have I got something set-up wrongly?

  • Are you certain your server is in the same workgroup? If your server and PCs are configured with default network settings (i.e. you haven't explicitly changed the workgroup) it isn't, and what you describe sounds like the server is in one workgroup and your PCs are in another.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)

  • Hi Ken,

    Thanks for replying.

I am positive that all PCs and Server are in the same workgroup, in my case this is Villa Elsa.

As explained the server does appear in the Villa Elsa workgroup, where I would expect, if I key \\server into the address bar.
