  • I have seen a few posts with that user name lately, but I believe it means the system cannot determine the actual account. I reported a spam post yesterday with that name. It got deleted, but I don't know if the actual account got banned.

  • Hi Visakh,

How do you post the reply with issue? Is it via web browser (which browser)? Or some other approach, forum API, NNTP?

  • It is important to notice that all the people that reported this issue, their messaged are "redirect' to the same user. At least if I am not mistaken.

     * If this is a real user and not something related to the system (for example user that was created for temporarily test or for issues) then this remind a case of Man-in-the-middle attack where someone get your message and pass it t the server after ETL. I AM NOT SAYING THAT THIS IS RELEVANT TO CASE, but just mention that this is what it reminded me :-)

The migrationuser 1 is well known. I've seen it off and on for a long time. (another one here) This was the response I got a couple of years ago, but the recent misbehavior seems something new.

We escalated the issue to our engineering and we are pleased to update that it is by design which sets the default user as “MigrationUser1” conditional to below norms.

Yep, I reported this user several weeks ago since the profile activities seems strange :-)

  • One more thing I noted yesterday was whilst refreshing sometimes the home page was showing unlogged view with Top 10 Answerers etc. On next refresh it shows me as logged again. So my guess is that something was happening related to security module yesterday. So it might have picked up user as MigrationUser 1 when it couldnt determine who the real logged in user was at the time of submitting our post

  • I also saw forum views in what appeared to be a new display, without the icons indicating posts answered, with proposed answers, or unanswered. And it had a leaderboard as if I was not signed in and it did not show my display name, although it showed me signed in. And the view had a lot of unused space. But the usual view returned after I refreshed. Sometimes I had to refresh several times. Strange, but I assumed the developers might be working on a new forum display.

Edit: If it matters, I am using the Edge browser in Windows 10, version 1803.

I think I saw that view on my phone yesterday but gone after refresh.

    My observations:

A reply that I posted is showing as having come from some other forum member,
    the notorious "MigrationUser 1".

is misattributed to a user named "MigrationUser 1" instead of ny user name
    of WayneAKing.

It may be worth noting that for a few days whenever I returned to this
forum or one of three other Visual Studio forums that I frequent, I too
saw a bizarre formatting of the message threads. Things were misaligned,
colors of icons were different (e.g.  - orange or green), etc. It usually
affected only one of the four forums at any given time, and it switched
around from one forum to another randomly - or to none. Affected forums
always returned to a normal display after a period of time.

I too suspected that the forums support team were doing some testing with
live guinea pigs - or that the forums were being hacked and deliberately
    defaced.

In any event, the issues may be related as I have never seen either symptom
iu 10 years of following and participating in the MSDN forums. But now I
have experienced both problems during the same time frame.

I was using the Avast Secure Browser most of the time, but on at least one
occasion I opened Firefox and Chrome to see if the odd appearance was
browser-specific, but it wasn't. When the forum display went wonky it
did so regardless of the browser being used. (Win7 64bit)

  • Good day all,

I got a message from the Engineering team that the issue was fixed. If anyone get this error in the future or if you hear about someone that have this error, then please ping me in private message or add comment here (hopefully I will see it and pass it to the right person in the team)
