Windows7 64bit: WHS Backup Utility - Will it work? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am running WHS on the following setup:

    * CoolerMaster Elite 330 Case
    * Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H 780G motherboard
    * AMD X2 AM2 BE 2400 2.3GHZ
    * 4GB Crucial pc2-6400 (2x 2gb)
    * 1 Samsung 80gb SATA (Operating System)
    * 1x 1TB Seagate SATA 3.0GB/s

    I have 3 other machines in my home that are all Vista Ultimate 32bit.  WHS backup works/installs just fine on all of those machines.  My question is, will the WHS backup utility work with Windows 7 RC1 64Bit Ultimate on the following setup:

    * Cooler Master Elite 330
    * Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H 780G motherboard
    * AMD Phenom II Quad 940 Black Editon - Stock cooling
    * 8GB G-Skill PC2-6400
    * XFX Radeon 4870 1GB
    * Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA II
    * Onboard LAN/HD Audio
    * Antec Earthwatts 650wt psu
    * Logitech DiNovo Keyboard
    * Logitech MX Revolution Mouse
    * 2 X Yate Loon 120mm silent case fans
    * 2 X Dell 23" S2309 W @ 1900 x 1080
    * Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit and all updates
    * DirectX 10 installed

    Will I be able to install and use the WHS backup utility so I can backup this main RIG?

    Hi,

    Windows 7 is still in development so it's possible you may hit bugs because this is the RC build. The team is taking feedback on Connect for Win7/Windows Home Server issues. [Not Windows 7 only issues. That's another team ;)]

    Regarding backup: The restore environment is 32 bit so you will have to provide that 32 bit drivers if/when you restore. You don't have the chipset for the onboard LAN listed but if you're having problems with restore and it's a Realtek, you'll want to look at the forum's FAQ regarding that driver/chipset.

  • WHS Backup works on Windows 7 x64.
    For restoring: In case you cannot find drivers, which are cooperating with the Windows PE based recovery environment, you still have the chance to attach the disk to another client and go on as described in this FAQ.
