Contact details not updating RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I've just noticed an issue in CRM4.0 which I'm hoping is just a config issue.

When adding a contact under a specific account, the contact takes on the address details defined under the account. However, if the account address details are updated, i.e they relocate to another address, the contacts address details remain unchanged.

Is there a way to make sure the contacts under an account are also updated when the account address is changed? I guess this has something to do with field mappings.

I've received a couple of responses under the CRM forum, but reolised I'd posted this question under the wrong section.

If anyone can point me in the right direction to get this resolved I'd be gratful.

    Best Regards

    Dave C

  • What you are seeing is the correct (intended) behaviour - the values from the parent do map to the contact at creation, but updates to the account's address are not propagated to the contact automatically.

I am currently on a project that has added a custom plugin to the account that optionally will update any related contacts with address changes.  (a checkbox was added to the contact's address to indicate whether it should inherit changes to the account's address or not.)

The Microsoft Dynamics CRM SDK contains the needed information as to how to create plugins.

  • I would go with Scott’s suggestion. However, the following option might be easier to digest.

You may add a new “account addresses” navigation item which points to the account more addresses URL.
This way, users can choose to either create an account address or a private contact address.

This requires you to use JavaScript Since you need to append the accountid to the account more addresses URL.
