msoobe.exe not working...

Question
-
i read some other threads where people are having problems with the activation process, but i haven't stumbled across a post with my issue...
msoobe.exe just doesn't work. no error message or anything, you just click 'activate windows' and it loads msoobe.exe in task manager but the program goes no further. a lot of posts say 'just activate by phone' but i can't even get to that screen.
so i went to the microsoft webpage, saw that i was failing for installation of plugins and plugins connecting to microsoft. i downloaded and installed wgaplugininstall and ogaplugininstall (i'm on firefox), and it still says i failed after installation. so here's the MGA log:

What Anti-Virus and firewall are you using?
What happens if you use IE for validation at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate ?

It happened also to me. The problem was that i had upgraded Windows XP Home with IE8 installed to Windows XP Professional. In this situation i wanted activate windows xp pro, but i had your same problem with msoobe.
To solve i had:
- Uninstalled IE8 (c:\windows\ie8\spununst\spuninst.exe)
- Run Activation wizard (c:\windows\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a)
- Reinstalled IE8
