linux dsvm on site 2 site vpn based vnet. RRS feed

  • Question

  • if i create a dsvm and put it on its own vnet with a public ip I can access the juypter hub just fine, if I place in on our site to site based vpn vnet the juypter hub stops running, I  do a netstat and port 8000 is not listening.  Is this an expected behavior,  This is probably in a doc somewhere  but I can't find it.

    thanks

  • Can you please send output of "sudo systemctl status jupyterhub"? That may give some clue what is going on.

so if run "jupyterhub --generate-config" I can at least from the server do "telnet localhost 8000" prior to this it doesn't connect.

and if I try to connect via browser after doing the --generate-config, I get the following error.

this might be because the site uses outdated or unsafe TLS security settings. If this keeps happening, try contacting the website’s owner.

I see that the server can not resolve the name aaa-ana3000, which I think overall is the issue I just don't know how to fix it in this case.

    thanks

  • If you created the DSVM instance in the last month or so, we do have an issue with the default Jupyter config that we packaged on the DSVM:

Please run the following commands to set the proper configuration:

    sudo -s
    source /anaconda/bin/activate py35
    jupyter notebook --generate-config --config=/usr/local/etc/jupyter/jupyter_notebook_config.py

  • houdini@prc5-aaa3003:~$ sudo -s
    root@prc5-aaa3003:~# source /anaconda/bin/activate py35
    (py35) root@prc5-aaa3003:~# jupyter notebook --generate-config --config=/usr/local/etc/jupyter/jupyter_notebook_config.py
Overwrite /usr/local/etc/jupyter/jupyter_notebook_config.py with default config? [y/N]Y
    Writing default config to: /usr/local/etc/jupyter/jupyter_notebook_config.py

    (py35) root@prc5-aaa3003:~# telnet localhost 8000
    Trying 127.0.0.1...
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused
    (py35) root@prc5-aaa3003:~#unable to resolve host prc5-aaa3003

so the last line is my check to see if things are working notice the second line "unable to resolve host prc5-aaa3003"
