Adding a hard drive to WHS RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just purchased a new Media Smart home server and I purchased an extra hard drive to add to the one that is already there. Should I install the extra drive before I install the WHS software for the first time or wait until it is all set up and then install the extra drive later?

  • Go ahead and put it in before you set up the first PC.

  • ... and integrate it to the storage pool in the console, before you start the first client backup.

  • If he installs it before he sets up his server (i.e. before he goes through the OOBE on a client) it will be automatically integrated, Olaf. This is also true of the system builder package, if you sysprep it. You install on a single drive, sysprep that drive, and then if there are additional empty drives when you go through OOBE, they're automatically added to the storage pool.
