Restoring files after reinstall RRS feed

  • Question

  • HI

I have done a back up onto WHS and then  I reinstalled my OS Vista because I needed a clean install.

Now when i try and restore some of the files from the back up before the reinstall it will not let me open the back ups, it gets a error message saying "cannot find backup for this time."
I know the back ups are there as i just didnt them and when i go into the server via remote desk top i can see them.

    Any ideas?

I really need some of the files?

  • It appears that this may be an issue that others have had; see this bug report on Connect, and this one. It looks like there's some additional information in the first one which may help you to figure out how to get at your backups.

  • OK  I Have now solved this.
Deleted the WHS connector and rename the computer you want to back up to. Make sure the name has not been used before on WHS. Restarted both the server and the client, the rebot of the server might not be needed but i did any way.

Reinstall the connector software an you will see the new computer listed the click on the old computer and open the back ups. Then now just open the files and you can drag the back over the network.

I have some problems with the security of the files but sorted ok.

    Hope that helps.
