Troubles in using USB devices after upgrading to Xp service pack 3

  Recently I was prompted Microsoft to up grade to Xp Service pack 3.  When a USB Device is inserted the computer cannot read the contents, instead it asks for Formating the device this will cause erasing of all data. Even if the device is formatted the computer does not perform. As a result I cannot read or store data to and from Thumb drives, SD Cards and Printers. I wonder if I uninstall Service pack 3 and continue with SP2 the problem would resolve or will I get into deeper trouble. Can anyone help me out ?
