Asus EEE PC - Windows 7 Starter suddenly not genuine?
I'm using an Asus EEE PC (model 1015PX), running the original pre-installed Windows 7 Starter. About a week ago, during a Windows update, I received the message that my system was not genuine. The only change prior to the Windows update, was installing Norton 360. My other laptop (a Dell XPS running Windows 7 Home Premium) basically has the same software installed, including 360, but doesn't have any "not genuine" trouble.
Here's the report from the MGA tool from the Asus EEE PC with the allegedly non genuine Win 7 Starter:

Rebooting after running the MGA tool did not solve the problem. Activating Windows with the product key on the label underneath the machine (as in the third line of the Validation Data) returns error code 0x8007000D. I'm new to this sort of issue, so your help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Well, that was easy!
Running the MicrosoftFixit50485 (found on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2230957 ) did indeed fix things. After rebooting the "not genuine" error message is gone, and microsoft.com/genuine/validate/ tool reports the Windows version is genuine. The System info windows shows the Genuine Windows logo. So I guess everything's hunky dory again.
Had searched a good bit without finding a real answer, thought it was gonna be pain, but this was a simpler solution than I´d expected.
Thanks a million for your help!Saturday, February 8, 2014 4:38 PM -
