need help with external hard drive

  need some help with an external hard drive, I have a silicon power A15 500 GB, I backed up my HP desk top with it, but I can't view the files on it, it shows the space was used, the A15 is FAT32, the HP files are NTFS, Is this the problem? I also have a signature mini by simpletech, that I used and it works great, the properties show NTFS files on the mini, I can open the mini and see everything, all pictures, music, videos, etc., the A15 gives me nothing, but will  kind of work with an old laptop with vista, my HP OS is windows 7 home premium with SP1, thanks for any advice
