Invalid overnight also. Congratulations M$, you've wasted my time again RRS feed

  • Question

  • Worked just fine last night, perhaps installing your own M$ VPN update for Vista (since that naturally couldn't work correctly either) or the Windows update driver for my network card killed it.

Thanks for another headache for no reason, activating a legitimate copy isn't good enough, let's do this every time...  Since M$ apparently lacked the foresight to see that these kind of things are going to happen.

What if I was your normal Joe Schmo user and not a network admin?  I'd be screwed, that's what.

Bytw, the instructions to troubleshoot this needless problem tell me to run diskchecker but I can't because I can't get at ANYTHING except a browser, no ctrl+alt+delete task manager or anything.

    This is beyond pathetic.

Also...the first thing that happens when I try to validate online is...

"Windows cannot find 'http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=65174'.  Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again"

I'm getting the "An unauthorized change was made to your license" and no I didn't install any of those programs.

    Please try this:

Open an elevated command prompt (find Command Prompt in the start menu, right-click it and choose "Run as administrator") and type "net start slsvc" (and hit enter).

If you get the following message:

"The Software Licensing service is starting.
The Software Licensing service was started successfully."

try validating again.  You can do that by clicking "Validate Windows" here: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/

If you get a different message please run a disk check and then run (no quotes) "sfc /scannow" in an elevated Command Prompt.  And then try validating again.

     Thank you!
