  • Hello Sooner,

Currently there isn't an Internet Explorer 64-bit ActiveX control for either OGA or WGA controls.  This is due to the Windows Genuine Advantage control accommodating 32bit sessions of Internet Explorer only.  Start a 32bit session of Internet Explorer, which is the default session when choosing the link IE link from the “Start” menu or desktop shortcut and go to http://www.microsoft.com/genuine  and then validate either Windows or Office. You can also use the alternate validation method of Validating using an x64 bit session of IE by using this link: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/RunHTA.aspx?displaylang=en&sGuid=4e3c774a-d5d6-467a-a403-d7bfa1757020&page=validate

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Support.

  • Hi Stephen,

My default browser is already IE 32bit session. The results I got above is with IE 32bit.

    I also tried IE 64bit.

Here's a comparision between IE x32 and IE x64 in the validating issue:

    STEP 1) Validate Windows comparasion

    http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/default.aspx?displaylang=en

Clicked to "validate windows" button on the right:

    Result in 32bit IE:

    Redirected to error page:

    http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/AutomaticUpdates.aspx?displaylang=en&Error=6&sGuid=0462f84f-edb9-42d7-b640-d14673825a00

Validation is not currently supported for this version of Windows or for this non-Microsoft operating system.

It appears that you are using an operating system that is not currently supported by the validation process. Only the following operating systems are currently supported:

    • Windows XP Home Edition

    • Windows XP Starter Edition
    • Windows XP Media Center Edition
    • Windows XP Tablet PC Edition
    • Windows Vista

    Result in 64bit IE:

Redirected to Activex page named "Running the Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool" :

    http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/Validate.aspx?displaylang=en&sGuid=6d54a491-87e3-4806-b765-bd8cdf587819

Waited but no Activex loaded, nothing happened.

    STEP 2) Diagnostics Tool comparasion

    http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag/?displaylang=en

Clicked "start diagnostics" button at the bottom.

    Result in 32bit IE:

    Passed Active scripting allowed
    Passed Display images enabled
Passed Computer time and date correct
    Passed Cookies enabled
    Passed ActiveX enabled
    Passed Windows validation ActiveX loaded
    Passed Office validation ActiveX loaded
    Passed Validation Self-help ActiveX loaded

After getting diagnostic report, I clicked on "Validate Windows" button on the report page as I should do.

Result: Same as Step 1 Result in 32bit IE. [0x80080206]

    Clicked on "Resolve now" button.

Result: Same as Step 1 Result in 64bit IE. Waited but no Activex loaded, nothing happened.

    STEP 3) Alternate Validation comparasion

I tried Alternate Validation link You provided.

    http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/RunHTA.aspx?displaylang=en&sGuid=4e3c774a-d5d6-467a-a403-d7bfa1757020&page=validate

Clicked "Validate Now" link on Alternate Method page.

    Result in 32bit IE:

Automatically downloaded legitcheck.hta file. Selected run to open it. A window came out Genuine Microsoft Software, and tried to revalidate itself.
