number of current logged in users crm 2011 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I need to know how to get the current number of logged in users. I was thinking about developing HTTP module that can hock to session start and session end and update attribute in CRM user entity.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

  • I can tell you with certainty that CRM doesn't have a mechanism in place for this.  You might be able to use a proxy that people hit that then redirects them to CRM or soemthing to that effect.  You could get the number of logins in a certain amount of time that way, but I am not sure how you would track sessions.

The only thing I can think of would be to modify the pages in such a way that they tapped into the global.asax to track the session starts and stops and such.  But I don't recommend this if you ever think you might need support from Microsoft for your installation.

  • Yea, i was thinking of developing a httpmodule instead of reaching out for the global.asax. the only modification is that i will have to register the httpmodule in the crm web.config.

I dunno if that is supported or not, but i have seen alot of CRM 4 add ons that use the httpmodule, like C360 add ons use the http module for core operations.

  • It's not a supported customization.  ISV vendors get their code certified by Microsoft so they can sell a supported solution that does those sorts of things.
