after about 3 months of having windows 7 premium home edition activated it suddenly says and acts as though my windows is not genuine? RRS feed

    I got a new laptop for my 16th birthday in august and the windows 7 on it wasnt activated. Therefore after a few days of having windows 7 ,not activated but still using it, i suddenly got a pop up saying i need to activate my windows 7 and my walpaper went black and i saw a watermark at the bottom right of my screen saying "This copy of Windows is not genuine" i didnt have internet access to activate the windows so i had to activate it over the phone.

    Windows 7 has worked fine for me ever since then until today. Today i used my laptop to connect with my x box 360 so that i could pick up WIFI and connect to x box live. This worked for about an hour until the exact same thing happened just like earlier. My wallpaper went black, and at the botton right of my screen it says "Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not Genuine". I can still connect to internet although the icon in my toolbar shows that i cannot, and ever so often a window pops up saying "This copy of Windows is not genuine" and i get the option to "Go online and resolve now" i own a genuine copy of windows 7 and i entered the product key over the phone when i initially activated my windows 7. I clicked the "Go online and resolve now" button and it eventually brought me to a window saying:

    Enter a genuine Windows product key.

     

    The product key used to activate Windows on your PC is already in use on another PC or has been blocked by Microsoft. Not to worry, we can help you with that.

    Then it tells me i need to buy a new Windows 7 product for $109.00. I dont know what to do because i am not going to buy another Windows 7 when i got my current version that should be correctly activated anyway. Is there any way you guys can help me with this issue?

    Somehow, your system appears to have ‘lost’ the product Key with which it came – everything else appears normal.
    You need to use the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page to change the Key to the one on your COA sticker, and then you may need to activate by phone.

    1. Download Microsoft MGADiag.exe & save it to your desktop.

    2. Run it & click the continue button. Wait a few seconds.

    3. Then click the copy button. (Ignore any error messages you may get)

    4. Right click & paste the full report given into your next reply.

    How do i ge to the System properties page so that i can change the key? Also, anytime i went to the online activation page it asked me to download some test and after downloading the test a pop up said that i may be a victim of product key theft.

    How to change the product key.

    click start

    right click computer

    select properties

    scroll to the bottom of the page and select change product key

     

    You may have to activate by phone

     How to activate Windows 7 manually (activate by phone)

    1) Click Start, and in the Search box type:   slui.exe  4

    2) Next press the 'ENTER' key

    3) Select your 'Country' from the list.

    4) Choose the 'Phone Activation' option.

    5) Stay on the phone (do not select/press any options) and wait for a person to help you with activation.

    after i tried to enter my real product key a window came up and said:

    The copy of Windows you are using does not pass genuine validation. To get all Windows updates and downloads reserved exclusively for genuine Windows, you must validate your copy of Windows now."

    after it says that it gives me only one option which is "Go online and resolve now"

    i just clicked "Go online and resolve now" and i believe it fixed it! i will post to this thread again if i still have problems but i no lomger have the watermark at the bottom right of my screen. Thank you guys, i couldnt have done it without you!!!

    Where are you reading your Key from?
    You MUST use the Key on your COA sticker – not something dredged up by a keyfinder tool
