Bmw123d,
It looks like you have a version mismatch.
This could happen if your systembuilder used a downloaded trial of Office 2007 Home and Student to install the trial on your new computer, which when converted to a perpetual license is a full retail license.
The Medialess Licensing Kit (MLK) you were given by your systembuilder only works with trial versions of Office 2007 Home and Student that are installed by the systembuilder using the Office 2007 H&S OPK Master Kit. That's because these installations are converted to OEM licenses by the MLK.
Please contact your systembuilder to verify that this is what happened.
If so, the course of action with the least hassle to you would be to return the MLK to your systembuilder for a refund, then for you to purchase a retail copy of Office 2007 Home and Student at a local store (I have seen them on sale for as low as $79). Then, use the Product Key that came with the retail version to activate your perpetual license for Office 2007 H&S.
The good news is that the retail license of Office 2007 H&S can be installed on up to three computers at once in a noncommercial setting, ie, Home, School, etc. The OEM license can only be installed on the computer it came with and cannot be moved to any other computer.

BMW123d,
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like you may have a trial version of Office Home and Student 2007 on the machine.
In this case, you will either need to uninstall it and install a Microsoft Office of your choice or convert the trial Office Home and
Student 2007 to a perpetual license for full use of the product.
For information on how to convert the trial product you will need to purchase a perptual license.
http://www.microsoft.com/office/pctrial/faq.mspx
Or it's possible that the trial version has not been activated yet. Make sure you are using the 25 digit product key for the trial version.
the website noted above also answers questions for this issue as well.
Best of luck,
Lori MS

You are correct, I have the trial version, and I want to convert to the full with 'Medialess License Kit' I purchased with I bought the PC.
I do not understand you comment about the need to uninstall and install when all I am trying to do is convert to the Licencsed version of Office Home and Student 2007.
Yes the trial version has been activated.
I have not had any success yet.
Need more luck I guess.

I have followed the KB of http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919895 and I have confirmed I have a trial version... yet when I click Activate and choose to convert, when I enter the 25 character key, I still get the same message. I have had mulitiple people try typing it in, so I don't believe it is being miss typed.
Thank you in advance for any help that can be provided.Tuesday, August 12, 2008 1:36 AM -
BMW123d,
I'm curious to know if you might have more than one instance of a trial installed. You may need to dive deep and
if necessary reinstall the trial version itself.
Have you tried going into the Add/remove Programs to see if you have only one trial version of office? Just curious, where
did you pick up the trial version? Often times a trial version will already be on newly bought laptops that come bundled
with trial non-windows software.

Checking the 'Program and Features' from the control panel, I only see 1 '2007 Microsoft Office system'. There is no other program for Office installed.
The trial version was preinstalled on my labtop. I have not installed any other Office programs.Thursday, August 14, 2008 1:17 AM -
BMW123d,
Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Forum. The purpose of this forum is the support of Office Genuine Advantage (OGA) program. Your question is off topic as well as outside my area of knowledge. I suggest visiting the following website for further support on trial versions of Office (this website is for Microsoft Online trials for Office but I think it's the closest thing that may be able to assist with your trial product key issue:
http://us20.trymicrosoftoffice.com/faq.aspx?culture=en-US and click and Customer Support should you have a question to ask.If you should have other non-OGA questions please visit our other communities for helpful information here: http://www.microsoft.com/atwork/community.mspx . Thank you for visiting the forum.
