  • Hello thena9ir,

During install, Vista will ask for a Product Key, if no key is entered, Vista will still install. However, Vista will use it's own "Keyless install/Trial" key.  This key allows the user to use Vista in Trial Mode for a specific number of days.

Below are the last 5 digits of the Keyless install/Trial key for each version of Vista.  Notice that the key currently being used in your Vista ends with 76PKF.

    • BusinessN - QXX44
    • HomeBasic - 3V4VD
    • HomeBasicN - GFJBT
    • HomePremium - 76PKF
    • Ultimate - RP8F7

To resolve the issue, click the 'Start' button, right click 'Computer' and at the bottom of the window that comes up, click "Change Product Key" and enter the Product Key that came with your copy of Vista.

     Thank you,
    Darin MS

  • Dear Darin,

When I entered the key including what you have mentioned the last 5 digits, amessege appears saying" the product key you have entered appears to be a default product key and can not be used for activation.   Type a different vista home premium product key.

    thanks for your cooperation.
