Windows not geniune after trying to upgrade RRS feed

  • Question

  • After having no problems at all for months, I am now getting the "Your software is not genuine" message. I followed the yellowbrick road and found out how to run the diagnostic report and here I am. Can someone help me? What we did was try to update from Windows7 Ultimate to Windows 7 Home. It won't work. Realizing we can't go backwards in software, we are now getting this annoying message.

You are using the blacklisted Lenovo OEM SLP key. This product was blacklisted before windows 7 was released and has never been sold.

You will have to purchase genuine windows from a legitimate retailer.

Your Motherboard appears to me to be a retail one – so will not have the possibility of reverting back using the manufacturer’s Recovery disks. You have either to use a Retail license for Windows, or the OEM System Builder License with which the system was supplied (if it was supplied with any Windows installation at all).
Note that doing this will delete all data on your drive, so back up to external media first.

  • You'll need to reformat the hard drive and reinstall your original Windows 7 Home Edition.  Then if you wish to upgrade, you can purchase a genuine Windows Anytime Upgrade.

    Neal,

Come to find out, we purchased the new version of Windows 7 Home and it won't let us install it. Something about "going backwards" (we have Windows 7 Professional). Any idea what this means> Do we still have to uninstall, back up hard drive to an exrtnral drive first?

  • You can't upgrade from a higher edition to a lower one.  You can install, but it will wipe out your programs, files, and settings.  You have to do a custom install.  Upgrade install is not available.  Why would you install Windows 7 Home Premium when you already have Windows 7 Professional installed?  Professional is better.
