Purchased from a professional computer installer who purchased from microsoft website.  Because of this problem he no longer upgrades any computers to windows 7.

Okay so I have microsoft not genuine error.  I located mui which was causing my windows 7 home premium to consider the product tampered with.  Solution is either to remove mui or spend 140 dollars to upgrade to ultimate.

The mui is from a microsoft game called zookeeper collection of zoo tycoon 2.  title is "EULA" I deleted it (eula a text document) but cannot play the game because I have to accept the "eula" .  So if I decide to keep the game is it possible to get a "eula" in english instead of english and a half a dozen languages or do I really need to pay that much to upgrade my windows 7 for my daughter to play her favorite game?

The machine on which your copy of Win 7 is installed does not have the proper BIOS markers for OEM SLP activation - and would appear to be too old to legally have Win installed by the OEM.
Your supplier would therefore appear to have been installing counterfeit Windows on their PCs - presumably to make them appear newer, and be able to charge higher prices.
If you look at the COA sticker - for what version and edition of Windows is the system Licensed?

  • I purchased the computer myself several years ago.  The windows 7 home premium was an upgrade.

Microsoft says windows professional, basic and home ultimate does not support MUIs which are/were installed on my computer by microsoft game zoo tycoon2.  The muis are required to run the game.

So you are telling me my computer is too old to legally run windows7 ?

Currently you have a OEM SLP version of Windows. Upgrade versions of OEM SLP do NOT exist nor is any version of an OEM SLP version of Windows ever sold in a store.

OEM SLP versions of Windows are ONLY to be sold Pre-Installed on computers built by Large Manufacturers. OEM SLP versions of Windows require the proper Bios Flag to be present in the computers Motherboard. Only a computer built by the specific Large Manufacturer will have the proper Bios Flag to allow that OEM SLP version of Windows to work.

This issue is not related to mui files.

    Thank you,

  • What Noel said, I agree 100% your problem is not related to zoo tycoon, whoever installed windows 7 did so using what appears to be a dell backup disk on a computer that does not meet the requirments for SLP 2.1 activation.

If you purchased this computer in this state then you need to demand a refund or a genuine copy of windows.

  • The fact that the game has MUI files does not impact product activation. The lines that Noel highlighted in your report show why windows is not genuine. If you read the sticky on Vistalizator and language packs it will, in detail explain the symptoms of language pack related issues and how they affect WGA.

In other words, the source of the problem is the installation media for your installation of windows and the fact that it does not match the bios SLP marker found on your computer.

Your computer is NOT too old to run windows 7, it is too old to qualify for SLP activation. You can purchase and install any legaly available, retail copy of windows you want and install it and activate it on that computer but it will not pass validation by simply installing a Dell windows 7 OEM disk onto a pre SLP 2.1 computer such as yours.

If you bought the software then take it back or report it to MS, if you borrowed it or used one from another dell computer you will need to reinstall the previous version of Vista.

BTW, an MUI is just a Multilingual User Interface file that windows OR AN INSTALLED PROGRAM can use to configure windows to work with differing languages. If the installed OS does not support multilanguages or they are not installed the MUI installed by the game will not cause a non-genuine status, by tampering with that file you may break the game but it will not impact windows. My guess is you can install that game on computers with differing languages and due to the fact that it supports multiple languages it may work on a computer running say a spanish or french version of windows.

  • MUIs can trigger this message as outlined on microsoft web pages Link:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2105247/

I will call the installer again and refer him to this thread,, but would appreciate any imput after you read the link.  thanks.

  • "This copy of Windows is not genuine" warning when MUI packs are installed in Windows 7

That is the title of the article. You do not have MUI packs installed, you have MUI files installed by a game, but not the MUI files that will cause the non-genuine status. I am aware of that KB article and I am aware of how the MUI packs affect windows activation.

I will refer you to the following sticky, if you believe that this is a language pack issue then by all means, read that sticky and follow he steps provided in the KB article but niether of those will replace the bios marker in your bios and your SLP copy of windows will never activate.

BTW, I am aware of the MUI situation, I did write the sticky on Vistalizator and language packs.
