How to backup EDGE server.. WMI error?? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We have one edge server which is not in our domain which we'd like to backup settings / configs.

Running LCSCmd.exe /config /action:export /level:machine /configfile:C:\Backups\EDGE2Serversettings.xml with or without FQDN attribute gives the following error..

ERROR (0x800706BA): The RPC server is unavailable.

and in log file it just says Failure [0x80041010]

Is this normal or are we missing something?

    Hi,

Thank you for letting us know your issues.

From the error "ERROR (0x800706BA): The RPC server is unavailable" it seems that you are trying to backup settings to an non existing server role in this case Edge server or you are trying to backup from an admin machine which belongs to a domain with out specifying FQDN of the edge server.

To clearly understand your issues could you clarify the following questions

1.From where machine are you trying to run the above command?

2.If you tried the above command by providing FQDN have you tried it by giving the machine name of the Edge server as FQDN?

If your answer to the above questions is no then try it by doing the following corrections

    1. Try to run the above command from the machine where edge server is installed? Or if you try to run the above command from an Admin machine  belonging to a domain then provide /FQDN:<Machine Name of Edge Server>

If trying the above modifications you still get the error please let us know by sharing the log files.

    Thanks,

    Antenehe

  • Hi Antenehe,

    Thanks for followoing this up..

I'm not sure whether this was a public beta bug or something to do with our config, but after upgrading to Release Candidate we have been able to backup from our edge box with the exact same script..

To answer your questions 1) we were running from EDGE server, and 2) yes we tried running it both with and without the FQDN attribute without success.

    Cheers
