PS 2010 Slow Performance

Question
-
We have recently converted to Project Server 2010 from PS 2003. We are using a VM for Sharepoint with 2 processors and 8gb of RAM. SQL is running on a dedicated SQL server that is pretty beefy and runs all our other database (much greater data sets) needs with no problem.
We have about 35 users and about 40 project loaded. Most project are less than 100 tasks and we have limited our custom calulation fields to 5.
When going into timesheet it can take 20 to 60 seconds just to display taks. Many other processes are extreemly slow too.
Can anyone offer suggestion of things to look into for improving performance?
Thanks
Doug

Hi Doug,
The main bottleneck for Project Server is SQL I/O, so this would be the 1st place to check. I know it's daft, but make sure your NICs are configured correctly (not set to auto, but force them to 1GB +). After that, there are some sharepoint best practices, and it's worth reviewing those docs.

Further to Ben's suggestion, are there any other pages that are slow or just timesheets? Have you customised the timesheets page?
Have you conisdered looking at the Developer Dashboard to see the underlying cause of slowness?

Hi Doug,
in addition to the useful informations from Ben and Alex, i might add that there's a useful resource here : http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=4fc24c1b-94bf-463a-8ada-3932dbdc2024 for Project Server performance and capacity.
Maybe you can check here something that can help you.
A trivial question: if you clear temporary internet files (and file not online) in your browser, do you improve your performance when open timesheet page?
Best Regards,
Paolo O.

We have made dramtic improvement by simply Rebuilding all of the indexes for the tables in ProjectServer_Published database twice a week. Takes one minute to run
We haven't made any updates to the performance of the SQL box itself.
Found this suggestion on the thread
Thanks for the suggestions.
