My Config and Install Experience RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

Finally got home from my business trip and am now installing. Here is my setup:

    • Gigabyte GA-8KNXP
    • Intel 3.4Ghz Prescott
    • 1GB RAM
    • 4 500GB Seagate SATA drives, all pluged into Silicon Image 3112 chip on MB (no addl card)
    • ATI AIW 9600 (more than I need, but it was in a box not being used anyway)

    Comments/Observations on Setup

    • First try at loading SATA driver (non RAID) from USB key was corrupt - aborted during reboot to text setup. When I ran install the second time the 10GB partition now shows up in the list of drives that will be formatted (named SYS).
    • After installation completed took 5 Windows Update patches, 2 for drivers (nic and sata), IE 7, Search 3.01, and malicious software removal tool
    • AC97 audio and vid card did not natively install with drivers

I configured a backup to run from my primary desktop, I'm excited to see it work.

    So far so good!
