  • If you cannot successfully activate via the internet, then choose the alternative option to "activate by phone".

How to activate Windows XP by phone
To contact a Microsoft customer service representative to activate Windows by phone, follow these steps:

    1. Click 'Start', point to 'All Programs', point to 'Accessories', point to 'System Tools', and then click 'Activate Windows'.
      Or,
click the Windows Activation icon in the notification area (aka system Tray).
      Or,
clicking Start button, then Run, and type in "oobe/msoobe /a", then press the Enter key located on your keyboard.

    2. Click Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to active Windows now.

    3. Follow the steps in the Activate Windows by phone dialog box, and then click Next.

    4. When activation is completed and you receive the following message, click OK.
"You have successfully activated your copy of Windows".

  • Nathan Carter,

Please repeat the telephone activation.  If/When you are informed that there is a problem, at that time choose the option to speak with a live activation representative.

The mgadiag utility is showing that you have a retail license for XP; retail licenses offer the End User the most flexibility and retail licenses are not tied to any given set of hardware.

  • Nathan,

I am sorry to hear about the problem your currently experiencing. I can see right away what the issue is with Windows Home and why it is not passing validation.  Unfortunately, the product key used to install the operating system has been blocked by Microsoft. We review  the diagnositc results and us software tools to analyze each customers' problem to provide a solution.  Have you experienced any error codes whatsoever?

This is why you may be  the "Software Counterfeiting" messages on your computer, because the current installation of Windows Home is an unauthorized installation. In any case, please uninstall the non-genuine installation of the operating system to alleviate any complications which may arise from the non-genuine status of your system. As a customer there are options available to you for a resolution. For details on the ways to “Get Genuine”, see the web page that outlined your validation failure details or http://www.microsoft.com/genuine.  It will provide all of the possible steps which you can take. One step which can help you as well as countless others is submitting a priacy report. You may be eligible for a free copy of Windows Home if you have high quality counterfiet software.

First, if this comes as a total surprise to you, please visit the retailer where you purchased the computer or operating system and let them know the operating system is a counterfeit copy.  Demand they immediately reimburse you and/or provide a Genuine Copy which was originally paid for. Curious was your computer turned in for repairs/upgrades and was the hard drive reformatted?   In any case, please uninstall the non-genuine installation to alleviate any complications.  We CANNOT determine the "Quality" level of non-Genuine submissions and cannot guarantee such a thing here on the forum. We have a 3rd party registered Cryptography lab evaluate EVERY (really!) submission for the High-Quality Counterfeit replacement program - as they have a pre-determined subset of items they look for.

Again, I am sorry to hear about your situation. Please be sure to backup or otherwise offload any data from the hard disk because a clean installation or reimaging will destroy all personal user data on the hard drive. Please don't hesitate re-posting if you need further assistance.

    Thank you
