    Question

  • I have a windows vista home premium OS( build 6001) that came along with my HP pavillion dv6-1030 pc. It about 1-2 years old. I had no problem with the activation till a couple of weeks early when it posted that my copy of windows is not genuine. When i try to activate it, it posts the "Error code: 0xC004E003 and that the licensing service reported the license evaluation failed"

Some important info is that i cannot enter the code again because my COA sticker is woren out and unreadable. And i have already tried restoring the system based on an article on Microsoft KB- doesn't work. And i haven't changed any hardware or formated my os/pc. It just happened out of the blue. And i don't have the option to call support cause it brings up a launch script dialog-" launch TOPIC contacts" but doesn't do anything.  Anyways, i think this is the better option to getting my problem solved.

The other thing is that a text/ message on the upper left part of the monitor that says " serial not found" started appearing which didn't before. This started same time the activation came along. But i could still find the serial and product number after logging in the system and using hp system information utility. I don't know how much this helps but i have pretty much covered every info that you may need.

Well this is the MGADiag info:

You have a couple of problems....
    1) You installation of Office in non-genuine, as it’s based on a Blocked Volume License Key – which also means that your Visio installation is non-genuine, as it depends on the Office install for its license.

    2) For some reason, you PC is unable to properly read the SLIC table in the BIOS – this may be because you’ve updated the BIOS, or because of a software problem. The usual way to correct this problem is to change the Key to the one on your COA sticker – but you say this is unreadable. Your options therefore are :
      • see if installing an updated BIOS for the system from HP works
      • a Factory restore using the Recovery system that came with your PC, or the Recovery media from the manufacturer.
If you post back with the exact model number of your PC, I should be able to track down the appropriate BIOS for you

Make sure that you are connected to a stable power supply – the install process itself is only about 5 minutes, but it should still not be done with the machine running on batteries.
Other than that, make sure that you exit all applications first, and preferably disable your anti-virus.

Hopefully the installer itself will contain detailed advice (I can’t run the program on my PC’s to find out!)

  • Hello,
I have installed the update. Took me some time because i wanted to backup everything first which needed a new external HD... and so on. I don't think there is anything new though cause the message still appears on my desktop, the wall paper still goes to black and the activation process still gives an error("Error code: 0xC004E003"). I would have used the COA sticker but the surface has been scratched and it's basically unreadable.

What are my options here? Is there any way that hp might supply me the number on my COA sticker with me providing details such as the serial number of my pc and so on?

Anyways, here is the MGAdiag report generated after the BIOS update.

  • Neither HP nor MS keep records of which Key is issued to which computer.

Your only real option at this point is a reformat/reinstall, using the Recovery Disks from HP - and even this may not resolve the problem if the BIOS really is corrupted. (A conversation with HP Support  may be worthwhile, regardless)

One other possibility is to purchase a Full Retail copy of Windows 7 (Home Premium or higher), and install that as an upgrade - run the Upgrade Advisor first, but 99.9% of machines built for Vista will run 7 happily (some of your programs may have more problems) - http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=20
