  • What kind of web server does HDview require to serve many users 1000+ at any time ?

  • HDView doesn't have any specific demands on the server.  It has the same requirements as a webpage with images on it.  Your server has to handle 1000s of simultaneous image requests.  We've been using Amazon's S3 service to serve our tile sets.  I'll ask around to see what other ISPs people are using.

  • Since HDView will require mainly images from the webserver, there are things that you can do to optimize the delivery of the content provided that you have admin access to your server or have an agreeable hosting provider that can assist you in such things.

    For example- running a stripped down HTTP server optimized for serving simple content like images by removing various plugins (perl, php etc), or even using something like Boa (www.boa.org). Turning logging off for the image file types, fast disk etc. Caching... the list goes on and on..
