  • Dear Customer,

The messages you got meant to say that the "Video freezes or crashes in Internet Explorer or Windows programs" troubleshooter found the "DriectVobSub filter" codec on your computer system--a codec that has been reported to cause video frozen or crash problems. Since you selected the option to automatically fix found issues when running the troubleshooter, Fix it Center disabled the codec. Having that said, the codec may not be the root cause of the display issue in your particular case.

To help me better understand your issue, please provide more info.

For #3, does the display freezes or skips when certain applications are running? If so, which are they?

The Help and Support Center on Windows XP comes with video troubleshooters that help diagnose some video problems. Please give them a try:

    1. From the Start menu, select "Help and Support".

    2. When the "Help and Support Center" application shows up, pick the "Music, video, games, and photos" help topic from the list.

    3. Click on "Video", and then on "Fixing a video problem".

    4. Pick a problem category that best describes the video problem you encountered.

    5. Follow the instructions provided on screen.

If the Help and Support Center cannot fix your problem, may I suggest that you double check that the display adapter on your computer is one that is compatible with Windows XP and the driver currently installed for your display adapter is one that specifically targets the adapter. Generic display adapter driver is known to provide sub-optimal display experience.

I'd also suggest that you re-post your video problem on the Windows XP Pictures and Videos forum http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/xppictures/threads. Experts on that forum may better help solve your problem.
