Upgrading to Sharepoint 2013 MCSE

Question

Hi,
I am looking to do the MCSE in Sharepoint 2013. However, I am not sure on the upgrade path.
Can I get the MCITP in Sharepoint 2010 Config and then these three exams:
Upgrading Your Skills to MCSA Windows Server 2012
Core Solutions of Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013
Advanced Solutions of Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013And achieve MCSE in Sharepoint 2013? This omits the dev stuff (MCSD). I got this from http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/mcse-sharepoint-certification.aspx
Thanks

Hi,
Assuming my guess is right, am I right to say you already have attained the SharePoint 2010, Configuring certificate (MCTS)?
The upgrade paper (70-417) to attained MCSA Windows Server 2012 is available for upgrade from the following certification,
- MCSA: Windows Server 2008
- MCITP: Virtualization Administrator on Windows Server 2008 R2
- MCITP: Enterprise Messaging Administrator 2010
- MCITP: Lync Server Administrator 2010
- MCITP: SharePoint Administrator 2010
- MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Administrator on Windows 7
(Please refer to the following site for more information: http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/exam.aspx?id=70-417)
If you don't have any of the mentioned one, then you will only have the following path.
- Attained MCSA Windows Server 2012 by taking three of the papers. (70-410, 70-411 and 70-412) --> Then take the two SharePoint exams.
- Assuming you have MCTS SharePoint 2010, Configuring, then by all means try to attained MCITP SharePoint Administrator 2010 before doing your upgrade paper to MCSA Windows Server 2012. --> Then take the two SharePoint exams.
Last but not least, if you are taking any Microsoft exam before 31st May 2013, please do make full use of the "Free Second Shot" at Prometric. (Check out this site: https://www.prometric.com/en-us/clients/Microsoft/Pages/Second-Shot-FAQ.aspx)
Cheers and good luck!

Thanks. I have MCTS Config in Sharepoint 2010.
My end goal is to do the Sharepoint 2013 MCSM exam, however. Would 70-411 be supported in the learning path?

Hi,
In order to do MCSM SharePoint, then you would need both MCSE SharePoint and MCSD SharePoint.
Below is the link to the details,-
http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/mcsm-sharepoint-certification.aspx
For the certification path all the way up to MCA SharePoint, please refer to this site where it has graphical details for better illustrations.

Hi,
I finished exam 667, 668 and 573. I've got the MCITP for SharePoint Administrator 2010 and MCPD for SharePoint Developer 2010. What I want to do is to upgrade my certifications to SharePoint 2013 MCSE. Is this possible? I don't have an MCSA Windows Server 2012.
Regards,
Jessie

Hi Jessie,
You will still need MCSA Windows Server 2012 which is the fundamental across all MCSE certifications.
Thanks.

Hi Miltongoh,
Thanks for your input regarding my concern. So I'll take the MCSA Windows Server 2012 and after that what upgrade certification path do I need to take for the SharePoint 2013 MCSE?

Jessie

Hi Jessie,
You may want to do the following,-
Take 70-417 (http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/exam-70-417.aspx) - Upgrade your MCITP SharePoint 2010 Certification to MCSA Windows Server 2012.
Then complete the following to achieve MCSE SharePoint
70-331 - (http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/exam-70-331.aspx)
70-332 - (http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/exam-70-332.aspx)
Cheers.

Hi Miltongoh,
That's great. Thank you very much for the reply. I can save a lot by just taking 1 exam to upgrade it to MCSA Windows Server 2012. Actually I already planned to take the 3 exams for MCSA for Windows Server 2012 certification(410, 411, and 412). It's a good thing that I saw this blog.
Best regards,
Jessie

There should be an upgrade path from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013 which doesn't involve Server 2012 MCSA. As someone who is working on their SQL 2012 MCSA I feel I should have a right to get an MCSE in SharePoint 2013 with these skills. After all a SharePoint admin must be versed in SQL as well...Wednesday, August 14, 2013 1:51 PM

Well, I defer that, Microsoft have re-designed the line of certification as such, since running any of the products such as Exchange/Lync/SharePoint/SQL will need to be on Windows Server. Then it is essential for anyone who is trained in the respective technology to know how Windows Server works.
Example,- In SharePoint, you will touch based on IIS, DNS, ADDS, ADCS etc.
Lots of things touches on the Server layout and some (or most) of the faults can be rectify with finding the problem at OS layer. ;)

I agree both of your statement. Since SharePoint is a platform that is running on a windows server and also using SQL server as the backend. SharePoint MCSE should not focus only for windows server also in sql server.
