Vista x64 validation Issues

Question
-
Whosoever reads this, please excuse my knowledge and wordings as I am not good in this field. Bought this machine from someone with vista x64 working alright. Changed few pieces of hardware to suit my reqs. Vista starting playing and with this validation message. Read and followed the article KB931573. The update 931573 was there on my PC so would not reload for obvious reason. I decided to uninstall the upadte 931573 and tried to install it but the web page would come up with message that the machine dont need this update. Couple of days back updated SP1 and restarted the machine and validation/activation message did not come up, and in system properties page it showed that the windows had been activated with right PID. Immediately went on to validation page at microsoft and validated the windows, all went well and I was satisfied that the problem was solved untill this morning its all started again. MGA Diagnostic Tool report is as:

Hi Geniusduffer,
Computers, that are built by large manufactures, that come with Vista Pre-Installed, come with two (2) Product Keys:
1) OEM SLP: This key comes pre-installed in Vista, when it comes from the Factory. This key is geared to work with the special instructions found only on that Manufacturer's computer hardware. So when Vista was installed using the OEM SLP key (at the factory) Vista looks at the motherboard and sees the special instructions and Self-Activates. (that's why you did not need to Activate your computer after you brought it home)
2) COA SLP: This is the Product key that you see on the sticker on the side (or bottom) of your computer. It is a valid product key, but should only be used in limited situations. The key must be manually activated, but you must Activate by Phone.
That being said, the fastest way to resolve the issue is just to change out the OEM SLP (that is currently in Vista) with the COA SLP key found on the sticker on your computer. Below are alternate steps to do this vs. the normal way of just clicking Start, right-clicking on "Computer", selecting Properties" and clicking "Change product key" (lower right hand side of the window).
1) Click the Start button
2) Type: slui.exe 3 and hit the Enter key
3) Type in the Product key from the sticker on your computer
4) Click the Next button.
5) You will be asked if want to Activate, click ok
6) It will attempt to Activate by the internet and will return an Invalid Key error (this is ok, continue to step 7)
7) Click the Start button
8) Type: slui.exe 4 and hit the Enter key
9) Select your location in the drop down menu and click the Next button
10) The next screen provides the number to call to Activate by Phone
NOTE: when you call that number, you will first hear an Automated Voice that will try to Activate Vista for you. If the Automated Voice gives you an option to talk to a Live Activation Rep, select that option. If not, do not enter any numbers. This should force the Automated Voice to transfer you to a Live Activation Rep. Trying to Activate thru the Automated Voice will not work, in your case, only thru the Live Activation Rep will your Activation be successful.
Thank you,

You can reset your Windows Vista activation by performing the following:
1. Click on the Start button and in the Start Search box type in: slui.exe 4
2. Press the Enter key on your keyboard.
3. Select your Country.
4. Follow the instructions for phone activation.
5. Once completed, restart your computer.
6. Then visit http://www.microsoft.com/Genuine/ and click Validate Windows.

Hi,
Thank you very much
Carey Frisch & Darin Smith MS
As a debrief/summary or feedback:My PC is a custom built not any branded one which came with vist x64 preloaded (OEM). When I bought it I was not very happy with the graphics card so I changed it. After I changed the graphic card the problem started and on boot up I would be encountered with an activation screen(plus a message in right bottom corner of the screen that this copy of windows is not genuine), which gave me 2 options, Activate now and a 15 second delayed 'activate later'. Activate now would take me to an activation window with following 3 options:
-
Activate windows online
-
Enter a new key
-
Contact Microsoft online to help resolve the problem.
And if I chose activate later the windows would start as it should and always worked fine with no restrictions or limitations. So if I could stand the torture of not genuine windows message and a delayed option of starting windows I had no other problems.
I contacted the shop (Ihad bought machine from) and confirmed the windows keys and asked for any help or support, which was obviously no more than confirmation of keys I had.
So i contacted microsoft UK on phone. After a few calls and explanations I was given a new key. I was given the reason that changing of a hardware piece makes vista think that I was trying to install the OS on a different machine and the OEM version wont let me do that.
Anyway, I entered the new key and followed the instruction on the wizard and lastly after confirmation of 9 packets of 5 figures each etc etc the much desired message of windows is now activated came up. I validated the copy on line and all went well.
Conclusion is... it is frustrating that an OS like vista ultimate would start thinking as silly as mentioned above, it does not go with Microsoft's "IMAGE". while on the other hand I must appreciate the quality of customer support offered by the people via telephone. I haven't experienced a better service by any other company in UK or anyway near it.
