  • Hello hanysalah,

The Microsoft product key update tool is not supported under Windows Media Center, in order to install you current copy with a legitimate product key you will need to reinstall the Operating System.  Please let me know if you have any further questions.

  • I have seen you make the recommendation several times as far as contacting the manufacturer and it is a bit of a cop out.  I am a technician and i recently had a computer in that i was told to wipe clean because a jealous boyfriend put some tracking software on the machine.  I wiped the drive and discovered that the cd drive didn't work.  So i attempted to reinstall the recovery disks, but i could not get the toshiba to accept the disks due to a DMI issue.  I updated the DMI, but it still would not let me run the recovery, so i reinstalled Windows Media Center 2005 from another disk but it included a different key.  Of course it will fail the validation test and already has once.  When is microsoft going to realize that they just can't pass the buck everytime and they need to allow people to manage their product keys.  I have a valid COA on this machine, but because MS is lazy they won't allow me or anyone else to update the key.  I feel sorry for my customer as she was duped into buying a lame version of Windows (media center).  I suppose it could have been worse.  She could have purchased Vista, ugh.
