OK to Map WHS Shares to Mapped Drives on local computer? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've installed the PP1 RC.

Previously, we were warned NOT to use WHS shares as mapped drives on local computers - I believe there was concern that this could lead to the file corruption issue.

I now would like to use a WHS share with a program on my local computer that won't recognize the network shares - it is looking for a local drive letter.  Am I OK in mapping a drive and using the WHS share with that program?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Yes - it should work as long as the application supports having its files stored on a file server.

For example, as stated multiple times, there are some applications that do not support having their files stored on a file server, two well documented examples are Outlook PST files and Quicken files.
