Vista Validation Issues

    Question

  • So like other users posting here, my windows stopped working rather suddenly.  After reading through some forum posts and running the MGAD, I thought my problem might be related to the BIOS table and the software license.  I followed the steps to re-install the license material, but I was unable to validate after the second reboot.  However, when I begin my second reboot, I get an error message telling me that CSC.exe failed to properly initialize.  The following MGAD report shows that nothing has changed.  I tried the BIOS solution a second time with the caveat that the step of renaming tokens was unable to complete due to a missing file or duplicate file.  There was again a CSC.exe error.  Thanks in advance for any help.

Noel, sorry for the delay in getting back to the issue.  I ran MSE and Malwarebytes.  Neither found anything.  Here is my MGADiag:

You need to change the Key to the one on your COA Sticker – use the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page. You may have to activate by phone.
Are you still getting a CSC error on boot?

CSC.exe appears to be the c#  compiler for .NET programs – but can also be the result of a malware infection.
Download, install, update and run a Full System scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (www.malwarebytes.org ) – remove everything it finds.

I doubt that changing the Product Key to the one on the COA sticker will work – but it’s worth trying, anyhow. Go to teh System properties page, and use the link at the bottom of the page to do this.

  • I followed the advice to run malware software (Microsoft Security Essentials).  I found a couple of items that I deleted.  I then did a system restore to about two weeks ago.  I then did an MGADiag that had the following report.

  • Locate the OEM COA sticker affixed on the computer case and write down the product key.  Press WinKey + Pause/Break to bring up the System Properties page and scroll to the bottom. Click the Change Product Key link and enter the 25-characater COA product key to reactivate.

I followed the advice to run malware software (Microsoft Security Essentials).  I found a couple of items that I deleted.  I then did a system restore to about two weeks ago.  I then did an MGADiag that had the following report.

    Diagnostic Report (1.9.0027.0):

    -----------------------------------------

    Windows Validation Data-->

    Validation Status: Invalid License

    Validation Code: 50

Cached Online Validation Code: N/A, hr = 0xc004f012

    Windows Product Key: *****-*****-27HYQ-XTKW2-WQD8Q

    Windows Product Key Hash: U8YEZzymoD4DMyaMb32rPrNIS90=

Nothing like doing things in the wrong order :)
What is the point of scanning to remove viruses, and then (probably) reinstating the virus by using System Restore? – you may well also  ( if you only recently  installed MSE) have uninstalled the AV itself.

Update MSE and run a Full system scan, Download and install Malwarebytes Anti-malware www.malwarebytes.org – update it, but do NOT enable the Realtime protection. Then run a full system scan with that. Delete everything it finds.
then post back with a new MGADiag report.

You need to change the Key to the one on your COA Sticker – use the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page. You may have to activate by phone.
Are you still getting a CSC error on boot?
