Should the suggestions box pop up everytime a msdn page loads?

Question
-
I wanted to give some feedback on one of the features of the MSDN site. I hope this is recieved well.I am wondering how useful this is. Evertime the MSDN pages that I have been using recently load, the suggestions box pops up. The ability to close it is there, but it seems uneccessary for it to open eveytim a page loads. I have verified this by refreshing the page and it exhibits the same bahavior. For example: When the "Start a New Question" page loaded to enable me to type this post, the suggestions box for the search bar in the header opened. I wanted to post a new question, not do a search. It assumes that people want to search MSDN, Microsoft or the web everytime a page loads. This has proven to rarely be the case or me. Yes, there is the ability to close it. But, it is annoying to have to this open and to have to close it everytime a page loads.Another example of this is when I check "My Threads". This suggestion box opens. I want to check my threads and not do a search when I open this page. Not only is it uneccessary but it obcures the main navigation arear for the MSDN site.It might be better to have the options built into the header or have a button that the user can click to open the search suggestions.Ironically, this is trying to make the site more intuitive but it seems to make it more difficult to navigate.I hope this makes sense and is taken as constructive criticism.

This should now be fixed with our release from last week. I've verified it on IPod Touch so far.

No, that box is not supposed to be open by default. I know it's a bug on Safari, which browser are you using?

Yes, for me it only happens on Chrome. (I don't use Safari.)

It seems to be fixed with Google chrome. I have loaded a few pages on the site so far without the issue. It's kind of ironic that a MS person uses a Mac product. I can't fault you, they are great.Wednesday, April 29, 2009 10:35 PM
