time is precious. I want a productive UI RRS feed

  • Question

  • When a finger-friendly feature goes, a lot of features that is productive is lost. That's what I see so called kinetic scrolling: You can drag the page directly at the expense of being able to select words to copy. You no longer be able to use scrollbar to scroll through effectively and no longer be able to know how many parts and the position you are reading that you used to know as indicated by scrollbar and tab page I suppose Apple is improving their UI to bring back these functions on its next iphone OS and then will MS follow suits and then be sued? I indeed have one suggestion, can you make one button to change the touch function in that when users hold the button, the drag function will be disabled and users can do other function like text selection or something else. The point is you can be more creative when you don't need to avoid coinciding with other existing ideas.

  • I dn't know if this information helps you but on some of the HTC devices the screen recognizes the difference between some one pressing on the screen with their finger vs. fingernail. using ones finger initiates a scroll action while using ones fingernail causes a selection action to occur.
It takes all the running you can do to stay in one place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must try to run at least twice as fast as that.

  • Thank for the info. I did know that kind of recognition. I just want to express my view of how a UI should be. I like to have my device to indicate as much information as possible without me intentionally checking it by additional steps that would deter me from doing it. That way I could possibly be more productive and make a difference.
