My Office failed the Genuine Advantage Scan RRS feed

  • Question

  • I ran through the links provided and found that the following:

    Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007

Problem: The product key used to install Office has been identified by Microsoft as a key that was issued to a large, corporate customer. This key is reserved for the exclusive use of this customer, and cannot be used to install other copies of Microsoft Office.

Solution: If your computer belongs to a large organization and you believe you are receiving this message in error, talk to your system administrator.

If your computer does not belong to a large organization, you may be a victim of software counterfeiting. In that case, your best options to acquire genuine Microsoft Office are outlined on this Office Genuine Advantage web page. You can also contact the business where you purchased Office, purchased your computer with Office pre-installed, or had your computer serviced. Ask for their help to ensure that the copy of Office you purchased or received with the purchase of a new computer is genuine.

  • Hello Victor,

The installation of Office Enterprise 2007 currently on your IBM/Lenovo computer is a Volume Licensing edition, which should not be sold to individual consumers, and its use is not legal without an accompanying active and valid Volume Licensing agreement with Microsoft.  The company or organization that was the legal and rightful user of the VLK used to install this installation of Office reported it to Microsoft as lost, stolen, or otherwise compromised, or the Agreement allowing the use of this VLK may have expired, so it was blocked from further use by Microsoft.

If you are associated with an organization that might be using Volume Licensing software, please contact the IT Staff of the organization for further assistance.

If you purchased this copy of Office 2007 Enterprise thinking it was a legitimate retail license, you were sold counterfeit software.  If possible, contact the seller to return the software for a full refund.  You can also review the FAQ http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/FAQ.aspx?displaylang=en#ID0EKNAC to learn about the Office Genuine Offer and to see if you qualify for a discounted or a complimentary copy of Office.

  • Hello Victor,

The current Volume Licensing installation of Office 2007 Enterprise did not come preinstalled on your Lenovo computer.  Computer manufacturers do not preinstall Volume Licensing copies of Office for their consumer customers.

If the customer orders their new computer with a full version of Office preinstalled, computer manufacturers such as Lenovo will install an OEM license for one of four editions of Office 2007 that are licensed for OEM preinstallation:  Home and Student, Basic, Small Business, and Professional.

Another possibility is that your Lenovo computer came brand new with a Trial version of Office.  Many new computers do come with a Trial edition of Office 2007 preinstalled.  This trial is good for 25 uses before it goes into reduced functionality mode.

What you have to figure out is, what did your Lenovo computer come with, a Trial installation of Office or a full OEM installation of Office?  You will probably want to refer to the invoice or order that accompanied the computer.  Most of the time, if you paid extra for a full instalaltion of an OEM license for Office, your computer shipment will also have included genuine Microsoft hologrammed Office disc(s) so that you could use the disc(s) to reinstall the program if necessary.

  • The MS Office came pre-loaded with the Lenovo/IBM system. What do I do now? Do I contact Lenovo for the refund? I don't think I should be forced to buy a new copy because Lenovo/IBM thinks this is "compromised".
