MS Money 2007 Premium vers 16 stops working before fully loading RRS feed

  • Question

  • On about Monday August 26, 2013 MS Money 2007 Premium vers 16 stops working.  Had been working fine the previous day.  Operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium service pack 1.  At the main window and while loading, the following message appears:

"Microsoft Money has stopped working  Windows is checking for a solution to the problem."

No solution is offered and the following window appears a few seconds later:

"Microsoft Money has stopped working  A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

The following have been tried without success:

Repaired the file.  Log indicates no problems found

Same result with a file backed-up July 21

Uninstalled and re-installed Money 2007 Premium vers 16.0

    No restore points available :(

    Any suggestions?

  • In general we have been having issues with this machine locking up crashing etc.  May be related.  Need to try the Money file on another machine.

Sounds like Money is another victim of a wider problem with that machine.

To ensure your existing Money file is still OK, install Money on another machine

and open the file over there.

On the machine with the problems, I would try the CHKDSK /F (as shown in the additional data

section of two of the error logs).

In addition, I would run the System File Checker. You need to open an elevated command prompt

and run sfc /scannow. Further details can be found in the following KB article

  • Are you able to create a NEW Money file and add any data into it ?

Are there any entries in the Windows Event Log which give further details on the error ?

Between when it last worked and the first failure, were there ANY software changes made ?

  • I created a new Money file and entered a few transactions into a bank account.  Very small file but seems to be working.

Here are some suspicious error logs all beginning Monday evening when I noticed the problem through Tuesday evening.  They are listed in chronological order.  Probably some valuable diagnostic information but this is not my area of expertise.  Any suggestions?

  • Same issue for me.  I believe this has to do with Microsoft shutting down what was left of the back end support for Money.  Quotes all stopped working a few weeks back too.  Resolution for me was to disconnect from the network and then Money worked fine.  So next I tried working offline in Internet Explorer (Tools > Work Offline) while connected to the network.  I was able to use Money after that also.  I believe this works since Money is built on top of IE so as long as you appear to be offline it does not try to do whatever it is that is causing it to not work any more.

Reluctantly I am going to switch over to Quicken before Money completely dies.

  • KevinWalker, you could install Microsoft Money Deluxe Sunset. It will not try to fetch quotes.  If Money 2007 is crashing, you would have to do that to convert your Money file to Quicken anyway.

For knussml, you may be able to make a repaired version of your file without installing.

You could try a File->RepairMoneyFile->StandardFileRepair level 2 on
that *.mny file. To get to that menu, you could open any file first.
Alternatively run salv.exe, that is located in the Money install
    folder, typically
     "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money Plus\MNYCoreFiles"

Running this command *with* the quotes would typically do it:

    "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money Plus\MNYCoreFiles\salv.exe"

  • Yes Money seems to have been the victim of a machine problem.  Checked hard drive (original replaced in January) and found problems.  Supplier replaced hard drive under warranty reinstalled Windows 7 and all is fine, including Money.

I decided to give Money Plus Deluxe Sunset a try since automatic online stock quotes are no longer available with Money 2007 Premium.  Discover Card added QFX file (for Money users) for download.  Imported seven months data, Money did not crash.  I did not install patched mnyob99.dll file.  Next step will be to import stock quotes, Pocketsense?
