Why is Forums sign in not signed inito when Outlook is signed into in IE when Forums brought up in IE but if signed into Forums in IE then bring up Outlook then Outlook auto signs in? RRS feed

  • Question

  • It seems strange that I can be signed into the Forums in IE and bring up Outlook in a new window it signs in I suppose due to cookies.

I have IE to delete all upon closing (cookies, etc).

Yet if I bring up Outlook in IE and sign into it then bring up Forums in IE I am not signed into Forums. However if I select the sign in selection in Forums window it will then sign in using cookies already signed into Outlook I suppose.

Of course this has been happening since I joined Microsoft in May 2012.

  • I think social and content sites do share the same authentication cookie. I don't know about outlook authentication. It may have a different method. I logon to my surface pro windows 10 with my microsoft account so I'm automatically logged to forums and most content pages but do have to renter password for sites like MSDN subscriber downloads. Windows Credential Manager may also play into this. It could also be similar to windows domain logon where there can be one way or two trusts setup between domains.
