Cannot activate oem windows RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've gotten rid of the old dell and wanted to install my Windows XP Media Center on  my new PC.

Is this not possible?  I've dug up the key that supposedly was used during installation and still cannot activate.

    Here is a diagnostic report.

  • Hi legolasdx,

Your question is not WGA related and is outside my area of knowledge. I would suggest asking your question in the Windows XP forum (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/newsgroups/reader.mspx) or contacting the maker of the computer (in your case: Dell)

    Thank you,

  • Legolasdx,

The End User Licensing Agreement (EULA) covering the OEM license for Media Center that came with the Dell prohibits moving that license to any other computer.  Also, OEM licenses are single use licenses that are tied to their orignal hardware.  When that hardware is no longer in use, the license "expires."

In order to view the EULA, click Start>Run, type winver, and then click on End User Licensing Agreement.

You will have to purchase a new license for the Windows Operating System that you plan to install on your new computer.  The edition of Windows Vista that is most like XP Media Center Edition is Vista Home Premium.
