Activation beta RRS feed

  • Question

  • I received and accepted the invitation to try the activation beta.  I installed same on three machines with no problems.  However, due to computer problems, I had to uninstall and reinstall two times on one of the machines.  When I tried to reactivate the activation beta, I received a message that my activation key had been used the maximum number of times and I am back to the original beta with an early end to the subscription.  Am I now frozen out of the activation beta?

  • When you activated the reinstalls, did you use the key or just your LiveID? I've reinstalled the beta a few times and simply entering the LiveID got it activated once again just as in the released version.

So, if you tried to activate by entering the key again, don't. Just use your LiveID that was used to originally activate..

If you received an error about too many activations and used only your LiveID, then you just need to use that copy in unactivated beta mode.

  • Thanks Stephen.

Well, that seems to have worked - assuming that 2.0.2318.12 is the correct build.

However, my subscription now ends 1Nov07 and had previously been well into 2008.

  • I don't know why the shorter expiration now, but it may be a server side setting that was pushed. My guess is that the release of 2.0 should be in that time frame, but I could be wrong. If we get to November and it expires and the beta is still underway, I'd uninstall and then reinstall without activating.
