Backup external USB drive on client computer RRS feed

  • Question

  • Can Windows Home Server 2011 backup an external USB drive on client computer? If so, how do you configure the backup?

    Thanks!

  • Only a drive formatted using NTFS can be backed up. Some external drives are formatted using FAT32.

  • Yes, it should be listed when you set up the backup for the Client in the Server Dashboard.

  • Thanks for your reply Phil!

When the client computer was added for backup the external drive was not connected to the computer. After connecting the external USB drive, I tried using "Customize backup for the computer" to add the drive for backup, However, the external drive is not listed in the "Select which items to back up" dialog.

Do I have to remove and readd the client compter to get the drive to show up?

The external drive is not always connected to the computer, if I do succeed in getting it added, will this be a problem?

    Thanks.
