Script / Advice for Mapping Drives for users to Sharepoint Document Libraries RRS feed

  • Good Afternoon Clever Scripting Guys,

    We have set new SharePoint sites and Document Libraries for our school users, staff and students.

    To avoid users having to navigate to these document libraries, and use the One drive sync tool, 
    I would prefer to just map a couple drives, for them.

    I can manually do this, by doing the following;

    • Adding the tenancy https://*domain*.sharepoint.com to trusted sites (I'll do this with group policy)
    • Logging into SharePoint with Internet Explorer 11, adds the user's credentials into Web Credentials in Credentials Manager
    • Then using the Map Network Drive, to map the library https://*domain*.sharepoint.com/sites/school/staff/Resources/

    So the question is could it be scripted, to run at log on? or should I be looking at a different solution?

  • There is really no way to do that from a script.  The purpose of OneDrive is to automate this process.  Users can also access SharePoint libraries for Outlook and other Office applications.

    Mapping drives is fast becoming obsolete.  OneDrive uses other methods to create local folders that mirror online libraries.

    Post your issue in the SharePoint online forum to find other methods and APIs to automate some of this. 

    Mapping a user account to an online account also can make this possible.
