  • Dell dim 9100 p4

Win XP, Home ed, ver 2002, sp3

    Running LiveOne

Twice now in the past month I have found on my c:\ drive a file titled "~ssdfs" and along with that little jewel about 750,000 .tmp files at 720mb each. (not an exageration)

Now I am just a computer user, but that seems like a virus to me.

I did in the past and am in the process right now of deleting the all of these files. And things seem to work fine.

I have searched the Google and found only one other poor soul that this has happened to but he has not replyed to my queary.

Why doesen't OneCare stop it and how might I prevent it?

The ~ssdfs file is too big for my recycle bin so I don't have a copy.

Can anyone please help with this problem.

  • I don't think it is due to malware, though I can't speculate what is causing it. However, if you suspect malware not caught by OneCare, I'd suggest contacting support.

If you are using Windows Live OneCare and you have been infected, but OneCare did not detect or cannot remove the malware, please contact support to report this and for help with removal.
