Sharepoint 2010: Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS 77-886) Vs Administrator (70-667,70-668) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Good day, I posted a few weeks back and again need some guidance.

I evetually decided to go Sharepoint 2010 Administrator (70-667,70-668) because i wanted to know the high level end of Sharepoint (Sharepoint Design, Workflows, PerformancePoint, DashBoards, Workspaces) and would teach myself a bit of development in VS.

But now i came accross - Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS): SharePoint 2010 which I think covers more than Administrator with BI side as well (PerformancePoint etc)

Is it only the one exam 77-886?

Is the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS): SharePoint 2010 a better Certification than the Administrator as i only wanted to cover the High Level with a bit of development.

    Any ideas, please direct me.

  • Hi Ismailc,

77-886 has an entirely different audience than the 70-667 and 70-668. The 77 series is for Information Workers and the other two are for IT pro's and technical specialist. I don't know exactly what you mean by High level for sharepoint but the 77-886 is focused on performing tasks on SharePoint already installed and configured. On other words this exam is for people who want to work with SP and show their skills in using it. The other two are focused on installation and configuration and more technical then the 77 series. So my advice would be why not all three? Start of with the 77-886 and then move on to the 70-667 and 668. If yoy take that path you will be able to see what you already know and master before starting the technical exams. Last point which is important the 77 series exams are being delivered by Certiport (www.certiport.com) and the technical ones by prometric. If you are really into development you might also take 70-573 into consideration which is about developing in Visual Studio and SharePoint (2010).

  • Thank You very much.

I dont really want to configure & install SH but more the knowing of how to Designing, Workflows, PerformancePoint, Dashboards, Workspaces etc

doing a bit of devlopment in VS, so i wanted to be able to do everything that can be done on High Level being the Sharepoint Site and not in VS.

I thought that 77-886 covered more the Sharepoint Site topics than the Administrator.

I dont necessaraly want to become a SH Professional but know how to do all and not in an extensive way, as mainly would like to cover the Sharepoint BI Side (Publishing of SSRS reports, Dashboards, PowerPivots)

All in all i would like to cover all Functions on the SH Site.

    Please Advise

  • If it is purely a poweruser level you are after you might take a look at this link : http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/Course.aspx?ID=50470A&Locale=en-us#tab2 not really related to certifications but merely focused on getting the right courseware. By doing 77-886 you do prove your skills as a high end user.

    Good luck
